Today on the First Five:

  • 4. Voice Synthesizer ElevenLabs Raises $19M

  • 3. Infinigen: Procedurally Generated, Photorealistic Dataset

  • 2. AI Trounces Short Sellers; Adds $150B to World’s Wealthiest

5. Vimeo Goes AI

Video platform Vimeo just announced a suite of AI creation tools, including a script generator powered by OpenAI, a built-in teleprompter for recording, and text-based video editing a la Descript. Remember when Sam Altman said that he thinks most companies don’t want to be in ChatGPT, they want ChatGPT to be in them? I think this is what he meant.

4. $19M for ElevenLabs to Clone Your Voice

One of the early leaders in the voice cloning space, ElevenLabs has just announced $19m in fresh funding. Additionally, the company’s speech classifier which can recognize audio created with its tools is going live. The company has also announced a new feature called Projects for editing long-form audio en suite.

3. Infinigen Creates Mind-Blowing

Infinigen is an open-source, procedurally generated, photorealistic dataset for 3D vision. The automatic 3D scene generator creates labeled visual data that can be used in training AI models. While not AI itself, it could help future AI models have access to high quality visuals.

2. AI Is Driving Massive Market Returns

It does not pay to be an AI skeptic. In fact, shortsellers have lost $120B this year (including $72B in June alone!) betting against the AI-driven stock market. Meanwhile the world’s wealthiest have added $150B to their net worths this year.

1. 73% of Consumers Trust AI Generated Content

…but can we trust the survey? The surprising stat comes from Capgemini Research Institute’s new report “Why consumers love generative AI.” They’re a totally reputable firm, however, there are some things that give me pause. No disrespect, but, uh, this says the Boomer generation has the highest familiarity with these tools? The survey dates were October 2022 to April 2023, so maybe worth taking with a grain of salt, but still some very interesting data.
