5. Meta’s Voicebox Generative Speech Model
A couple times a week, Meta’s AI group releases some new model or project. The latest is Voicebox — an extremely powerful general purpose synthesized speech model that can perform tasks it wasn’t trained on. In fact it’s so powerful and the potential for misuse so high that Meta is going against its normal open source approach and not releasing the code.
BREAKING: Meta AI is revolutionizing speech generation
Meet Voicebox: This first-of-its-kind AI can create high-quality audio in 6 languages, with noise removal, content editing, style conversion, and more – all without specific training.

4. Nikon Says “Don’t Give Up On The Real World”
We’re officially at the point where companies whose business models are threatened by AI are creating advertising campaigns about or even against AI. Camera producer Nikon for example has released a visually stunning campaign that overlays a Midjourney prompt with a real world image.
3. The Grammy’s Make New AI Rules
The Grammy’s have announced new AI rules. Songs that are fully generated by AI will be banned from consideration, but artists who use AI as part of their creative process can still submit their work. Between this and Paul McCartney finished the last Beatles song with AI, it kinda feels like the music-AI train is headed in just one direction…
2. AI Predicts Pancreatic Cancer
A recent Harvard study demonstrated that an AI tool with only access to patients medical records was effective at predicting who would develop pancreatic cancer within 6 months to three years. The results have scientists excited about the possibilities for advanced AI screening for problematic diseases.
1. Ian Hogarth to Lead British AI Alignment Efforts
A few weeks ago, British PM Rishi Sunak announced a 100m pound UK task force to look at AI risk and research AI safety. Tech entrepreneur and AI investor Ian Hogarth has been selected to lead the AI Foundation Model Task Force. You can read some of Ian's thoughtful previous writings about AI risk here.
I’m honoured to be appointed as the Chair of the UK's AI Foundation Model Taskforce.
A thread on why I'm doing this and how you might be able to help us.
