5. The Push for International AI Rules

In an interview on Monday, Japan’s Prime Minister said that the G7 nations are on track for alignment around international AI rules and regulations by the end of the year. Reuters reported that the EU seems to agree that there is convergence. Meanwhile the UK is trying to build alignment around AI safety in advance of its big summit at the beginning of November.

4. AutoGPT Hackathon

If ChatGPT got general consumers excited for AI this year, the devs have been all about AI agents. AutoGPT held a hackathon this weekend and the projects that came out of it ranged from dedicated AI agent travel planners to engagement farmers on Reddit.

3. Google Announces Generative AI Search for Doctors

Medical files are one of the more disjointed sets of information out there, but now Google Cloud is bringing the power of generative AI search to the field. The company announced the features for health and life sciences organizations as part of their Vertex AI Search platform.

2. Hinton on 60 Minutes

“I think we're moving into a period when, for the first time ever, we may have things more intelligent than us.” So said Geoffrey Hinton on 60 Minutes. Hinton leaving Google was a big moment for the AI safety conversation earlier this year, and the 60 Minutes interview seems likely to continue that. However, not everyone thinks that he’s focused on the right problems.

1. Altman on Rogan

Hinton wasn’t the only AI luminary on popular media recently. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was on Joe Rogan, which remains one of the biggest podcasts in the world. It’s arguably the widest audience that Altman has had so far.
