5. AI Watermarks Prove Very Breakable
Watermarking is one of the hopes to combat AI-created deep fakes, but new research out of the University of Maryland suggests it’s really, really easy to get around them. Said one of the researchers “We don’t have any reliable watermarking at this point. We broke all of them.”
There's a neat article on adversarial attacks on image watermarks that came out today .
The attacks are cool, but I don't really agree with the framing in the first half, arguing that
"breakable watermarks -> watermarking is useless"

4. Mr. Beast Decries AI Deepfakes
First Tom Hanks and now Mr. Beast?! The ur-famous YouTube shared that many of his fans and followers have received a deep-fake scam ad that promises to give away a new iPhone for just $2. He took to his socials to warn, but it seems increasingly like this is a new fact of life.
Lots of people are getting this deepfake scam ad of me… are social media platforms ready to handle the rise of AI deepfakes? This is a serious problem

3. Morgan Stanley: 40% of Labor Impacted By AI Within 3 Yrs
It seems clear to most observers that AI is going to have a major impact on the economy, but Morgan Stanley analysts have actually tried to quantify it. A new report argues that AI will have a $4.1T effect on the economy, impacting 44% of workers.
Even if AI replaced 1 percent of jobs each year (likely an underestimate) it would take only about 4 years to total the number of jobs lost in 2008 and 2009 during the Great Recession. What is the solution? Keep reskilling yourself until retirement.

1. Anthropic Raising on a $20b-$30b Valuation
Just a week after news broke that Amazon would be investing $1.25B into Anthropic (with an option to invest as much as $4b), The Information reports that the company is in talks to raise another $2B led by Google. The new round would value the company between $20b and $30b. Foundation models, huh? Good work if you can get it.
It’s called Claude because if you invest in Anthropic at $20-30B you deserve to get your carry Claude back
