5. US-UK AI Safety Alliance
The first bilateral AI safety agreement has been signed by the UK’s science minister and the US commerce secretary. The arrangement creates a context for researchers from both countries to more formally share information.

4. OpenAI Announces Voice Model (But Says It’s Too Powerful To Release)
OpenAI has shared information about its text-to-voice generation platform called Voice Engine. Purportedly it can create a synthetic voice based on a 15-second clip which can speak in multiple languages. In a blog post, the company said they haven’t released it broadly yet because of how powerful it is.
Our early findings from an initial evaluation of Voice Engine, a model that generates speech closely resembling the source speaker's voice from text input and a 15-second audio sample.

Here’s an update for you image generators out there. DALL-E now allows creators to select a section of the images they’ve generated and use natural language to edit it. A great and functional update.

2. A Big Uptick in AI at Work
Some recent research suggests that AI is finding its way into the workplace. A Pew Research study shows that the percentage of American workers that have used ChatGPT at work has gone from 8% last March to 20% in February 2024.

Apple’s AI strategy continues to come into greater view. They recently announced a model called Reference Resolution As Language Modeling or ReALM, which (they say) outperforms GPT-4 on certain on-device tasks.
