5. OpenAI Announces Developer Event in November

While heavily caveating it that people shouldn’t expect GPT-5 or even GPT-4.5, Sam Altman and OpenAI announced an event in November that has some “great stuff to show developers.” The speculation is all about mutlimodal.

4. Elon Musk’s AI TIME Cover Story

Steve Jobs biographer Walter Isaacson has a new book coming out about Elon Musk. Next month’s TIME cover story features an excerpt from the book that’s all about the evolution of Musk’s efforts around artificial intelligence and AI safety.

3. Google to Require Disclaimer on AI-Generated Political Ads

Starting in November, Google will require political ads that were created with any amount of AI to prominently identify themselves as such. So far Meta hasn’t followed suit but these types of disclosures seem like they will (soon) be mandatory.

2. California Gov Signs AI Executive Order

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed an executive order directing the full breadth of state agencies to study artificial intelligence. The joint analysis is to cover everything from threats (such as to the state’s energy infrastructure) to approaches to retraining for state workers.

One of the biggest questions of Big Tech in AI was if, when and how Apple was going to get into the race. The Information has revealed new…well…information about the Foundation Model team inside the Cupertino giant, which while remaining small is apparently spending millions a day now on model training.
