5. Hyped French AI Startup Mistral Drops Free First Modelh
In June, pre-product Mistral raised a $113m seed round. Some saw it as signs of an AI bubble, but others pointed at the caliber of the ex-Google/Meta team and said “let them cook.” Well, cook they have, dropping a fully open source 7B llm that outperforms Llama 2-13B.
Wait wait,
Hold on a sec,Did they just dump 8 Trillion tokens into a 7B model and then casually tweeted the download link??

4. Biden Teases Executive Order on AI
As competition among ideas on how to regulate AI in the use grows, President Biden has said that an executive order from his White House on AI will be coming in the next few weeks. So far nothing too new in the language — profound opportunities, profound risks, etc etc etc.
*BIDEN: WILL TAKE EXECUTIVE ACTION ON AI THIS FALL

3. ChatGPT Browse is Back
In an announcement whose timing definitely has nothing to do with all of Meta’s AI announcements, the ability to let ChatGPT browse the web is back. The feature had been turned off for more than a month after it was discovered that people were using it to get around paywalls.
we are so back

2. What 1600 Scientists Think of AI
Another week, another survey of opinion around AI, although this Nature survey of 1600 scientists carries with it perhaps slightly more informed opinions. Interestingly the biggest negative impact they identified was 69% worrying that AI would create “more reliance on pattern recognition without understanding.”
#AI will transform science, but...
Very good editorial in today's @Nature

1. Meta Connect’s Top AI Announcements
Meta held its big connect event and although nominally the big announcement was the Quest 3 mixed reality device, really the story was artificial intelligence. We finally got more information about the AI chatbot personalities; we got to see AI integrated into Rayban sunglasses; and we got a preview of how Meta AI would be accessible from basically every Meta app interface.
Meta is launching Meta AI
Putting AI into all the products, /imagine, characters, AI studio, and much more.

BONUS: ChatGPT Vision takes whiteboard mockups and turns them into websites
I gave ChatGPT a screenshot of a SaaS dashboard and it wrote the code for it.
This is the future.
