5. For Once, Macro Jitters Beat AI in the Stock Market
Even Nvidia’s ‘1995 internet moment’ earnings report this week couldn’t beat back concerns the market has that Jerome Powell is going to pour cold water all over the markets at his speech in Jackson Hole today. Honestly, that’s probably a good thing.

4. South Korean Giant Naver Launches AI
What is it with AI models and terrible names? South Korean internet giant Naver has just announced HyperCLOVA X, which sounds similar to the way that Google is integrating AI into its search experience, product discovery etc. The company says the differentiation is that their model has local linguistic and cultural context.
3. Two New AI Models from Alibaba
Speaking of new models, meet Qwen-VL and Qwen-VL-Chat, two new more advanced models from Alibaba that can understand images and are being released open source as the cloud division of that company seeks to bolster itself in anticipation of a public listing.
On the Chinese Valentines' day, we release the Multimodal (Vision-Language model), Qwen-VL, which is based on our previously released model Qwen-7B! This model can perform perform multi-image interleaved conversation (chat with images), visual grounding, text recognition, etc.

2. Spain Becomes First Euro Country to Launch AI Agency
In case you wanted more evidence that AI supremacy is a geopolitical concern, Spain is loudly touting the launch of their new agency - The Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence (AESIA) - as the first dedicated AI regulatory agency among European nations. Meanwhile Britain prepares for its upcoming AI safety summit.
The Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence (AESIA) has been charged with developing “inclusive, sustainable and citizen-centered” #AI.

1. Meta’s Code Llama is Here!
After The Information broke the story last week, Meta has officially announced Code Llama. It is, exactly as promised, an LLM built on Llama 2 but fine-tuned specifically for coding. They also fine-tuned a special model specifically for Python, given its importance to the AI community.
Llama-2 was almost at GPT-3.5 level except for coding, which was a real bummer.
Now Code Llama finally bridges the gap to GPT-3.5! Coding is by far the most important LLM task. It's the cornerstone of strong reasoning engines and powerful AI agents like Voyager.
