5. Rite Aid Banned from Facial Recognition

Rite AId has just settled with the Federal Trade Commission around “reckless” use of facial surveillance systems. The FTC argues that between 2012 and 2020, Rite Aid used facial recognition to capture images of customers and then create a database of shoplifters. The company has received a 5-year ban from the technology.

4. GPT Engineer App

One of the most exciting use cases for AI is giving non-coders the ability to build more complicated applications. Earlier this week v0 by Vercel launched and now GPT-Engineer has created an app as well.

3. Stability Launches Paid Membership

There have been some questions recently about Stability AI’s financial…well, stability. To help address that, the company has introduced a set of paid membership tiers starting with a $20 plan for creators, developers and startups.

2. Suno AI Song Creator Goes Viral

Microsoft has partnered with AI music creator Suno to bring song generation to Copilot, and people are blown away. A number of the major labs including Meta and Google have released music-generation models but this is the most excited we’ve seen the community so far.

When OpenAI launched DALL-E-3 inside ChatGPT, it put a ton of pressure on the other image generators to level up their offering. Well, Midjourney is actively previewing v6 to insiders and the results so far are pretty astounding.
