5. Google Plans to Relaunch AI Image Tool in a Few Weeks

Google DeepMind head Demis Hassabis said on a panel today that the company hopes to bring AI image generation back online “in the next couple weeks, few weeks.” Meanwhile, on X, the debate continues (and more cringe responses come out)

4. Former Google AI Video Engineer Joining ByteDance

It’s a post Sora world baby, and everyone is racing to increases their AI video generation capacity. TikTok owner ByteDance has recruited a key contributor to Google’s VideoPoet and CMU adjunct professor.

3. US Uses AI to Identify Air Strike Targets

A US defense official has shared that earlier this month, AI was used to identify targets to hit in Middle East air strikes. The targeting algorithms were developed under an initiative the Pentagon started in 2017 called Project Maven.

2. Bezos, Nvidia, OpenAI Invest in Robot Startup

Robotics started Figure AI has raised a $675m funding round at a pre-money valuation of $2B. The round is a who’s who of corporate investors, with $100m coming from Bezos, $95m from Microsoft, and $50m each from Amazon and Nvidia.

1. Mistral Releases New Model, Partners with Microsoft & Amazon

More open than OpenAI? Microsoft has a new AI model to offer through Azure in the form of the just announced Mistral Large. Interestingly, Mistral Large won’t be offered open source as their previous models have. Mistral 7B and 8×7B are also coming to Amazon Bedrock.
