5. Netflix Advertising $900k AI Job
Lightning meet rod. Even as SAG and the WGA strike in front of the studios, Netflix is advertising for a number of highly compensated machine learning jobs. The sheer number of breathless articles about the job postings says a lot about the state of the discourse.

4. GitHub, HuggingFace Advocate for Open Source
As global regulatory discussions heat up, a number of companies are working to ensure that the voices of open source aren’t left behind. Hugging Face, GitHub, Creative Commons and others have teamed up on a paper pushing the EU to relax certain restrictions of the AI act when it comes to open source developers.

3. Microsoft and Google Earnings Calls Focus on AI
Microsoft and Google both reported quarterly earnings yesterday. More interesting than the numbers themselves were the extent to which the companies made clear that continued investment in AI — to the tune of billions and billions of dollars — is at the very center of their strategies.
Microsoft $MSFT and Google $GOOGL executives said the word AI or a version of it 145 times during todays earnings calls - CNBC

2. Alibaba to Support Open Source Meta Models in China
One of the big questions around open source AI — at least for the policy set — is whether open sourcing US models is dangerous with regard to competition with China. Interestingly, Alibaba announced today that it would support the implementation of Meta’s Llama 2 model in China — despite the fact that it was working on its own AI model.

Will this be blocked by Biden & co?

1. OpenAI, Anthropic & Others Launch Frontier Model Forum
A day after the Senate heard new testimony on AI from field pioneers like Yoshua Bengio, a coalition including Microsoft, Anthropic, Google and OpenAI have formed the Frontier Model Forum as a self-regulatory-slash-best-practices-sharing-slash-advanced-model-safety-discussion-group type thingy.
