5. AI-Generated George Carlin Special Rouses Daughter’s Ire
Comedian Dudesy has just released an hour-long special called “George Carlin: I’m Glad I’m Dead.” The special is a self-admitted impression that uses AI to mimic Carlin’s voice and cadence. Carlin’s daughter, however, was not amused. In a line that might be prophetic about the future of this type of content she wrote: “Humans are so afraid of the void that we can’t let what has fallen into it stay there.”
My statement regarding the AI generated George Carlin special: My dad spent a lifetime perfecting his craft from his very human life, brain and imagination. No machine will ever replace his genius. These AI generated products are clever attempts at trying to recreate a mind…1/3

4. Senate Hearing on AI’s Impact on Journalism
The negative view of AI in Washington seemed to extend yesterday as a subcommittee hearing on AI and journalism extended the blame for the decline of local journalism from big tech to AI. The guests — primarily from the media industry, claimed that Generative AI has been built with “stolen goods.”
At today’s Senate Judiciary hearing on Journalism & AI, Jeff Jarvis plans to testify that “the real question is whether AI should have the same rights that journalists & we all have: the right to read, the right to learn…”
Wait till he hears that AI can’t read or learn! 🤯

3. Steam to Allow AI in Games
Last year Valve temporarily paused approval of distribution for games made with AI-powered tools. They’re now updating that policy, however, to allow developers that used AI tools in the creation of their games to publish on Steam as long as AI usage is disclosed.
🚨 Breaking news! 🚨
#Steam has officially given the green light for using #AI in game development.
According to their press release, “This will enable us to release the vast majority of games that use it”
Their stance is clear and simple, here’s what you need to know 👇🏼

2. US Companies and Chinese Experts Engaged in Secret AI Diplomacy
While the US and Chinese governments may have precious little communication, private sector AI experts from the US and China have held at least two secret meetings on AI safety. Participants include representatives from OpenAI, Anthropic and Cohere from the US and experts from Tsingua University and other Chinese state-backed institutions.
