5. DOD Launches AI Defense System Around DC

While regulators and citizens debate AI, the Pentagon just goes right on ahead with continued implementations. This week they announced that the air monitoring and defense system around Washington D.C. would be upgraded with artificial intelligence-powered monitoring.

4. Snapchat Launches AI Dreams

The new generative AI featured leaked last week is coming to users first in Australia and New Zealand and then rolling out to the rest of the world. The AI-generated selfies allow users to place themselves in scenes from their imagination. The first pack of Dreams is free, while the rest will cost a buck a pop.

Google Cloud held its annual event yesterday and, surprise surprise, the thing was chockablock full of AI announcements.

2. Google DeepMind Announces AI Watermarking Tech

One of the biggest practical concerns around generative AI is how to help people know when something has been created by AI. Google DeepMind has publicly released SynthID, a watermarking system embedded at the pixel level. The question is, of course, will it work?

1. OpenAI Hits $1B Revenue Run Rate

The Information has reported that OpenAI is now on a $1B revenue run rate. This is a massive increase since last year before the company launched ChatGPT, and doesn’t even account for the likely growth from the just-released ChatGPT Enterprise.
