  • 4. Apple is Quietly the Biggest Acquirer of AI Co’s Since 2017

5. AI Agent Open Interpreter Gets Biggest Update Since Launch

Open Interpreter takes the capabilities of the ChatGPT Code Interpreter feature (now called “Advanced Data Analysis”) and puts it in the terminal window on a PC. The megahyped project has just released their Generator Update, which includes support for 100+ more LLMs and the ability to build Open Interpreter into apps.

4. Apple is Quietly the Biggest Acquirer of AI Co’s Since 2017

Apple’s relative quietness on generative AI certainly doesn’t mean the company isn’t thinking about artificial intelligence. According to Pitchbook data, the Cupertino giant has acquired more ML/AI companies (21) since 2017 than rivals like Google (8), Meta (11) and Microsoft (12).

3. CIA Building Its Own AI

In what genuinely has to be the least surprising news of 2023, the CIA is apparently working on its own version of ChatGPT custom designed for intelligence agencies. The tool is meant to help in the balance of power against China and will be available to all 18 agencies in the US intelligence community.

2. OpenAI in Talks with iPod Designer on AI Hardware Device

The top two slots belong to OpenAI today. The first is a report that Sam Altman and the crew at OpenAI have been talking with former Apple design exec Jony Ive on a new AI hardware device. There isn’t much more information than that, but that hasn’t stopped people from buzzing.

1. OpenAI Raising At $90B?!

WSJ is reporting that OpenAI is exploring a secondary sales share at an $80B to $90B valuation. The sale would allow existing company employees to get some liquidity while allowing some new participants (including maybe SoftBank) on the cap table. It would also mean some extreme paper gainz for Microsoft.
