5. Can Nvidia’s Earnings Report Save Wall Street?

In a fairly bleak macro environment, AI stocks led by Nvidia have sustained a prolonged rally this year. That rally however shows signs of petering out and analysts are wondering whether Nvidia’s earnings report today can give it another bump up. Meanwhile, Baidu outperformed last quarter thanks in part to AI efforts.

4. A New Focus for AI Agents?

One of the buzziest — and in many cases most disappointing — areas of AI hype this year has been around AI agents. One startup has pivoted slightly to provide a much more directed, professionally-minded experience. Is this the direction we’re likely to see that entire field head in the short term?

3. How Will We Know If AI Becomes Conscious?

One of the big questions in AI — one that is both technical, philosophical and ethical all at the same time — is whether and when AI becomes conscious. A new paper written by some serious intellectual heavyweights has come out trying to create a systemic framework for answering that question.

2. Meta’s Seamless M4T Translates 100 Languages

One of the more exciting aspects of AI for us over here at the AI Breakdown is the potential for radically breaking down linguistic barriers. That reality gets a whole lot closer today, as Meta releases a new model capable of text-to-text, text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and speech-to-speech translations in more than 100 languages.

1. OpenAI Releases Finetuning for GPT 3.5

In an announcement that some are calling the biggest OpenAI has made since GPT-4 itself, the company has released fine-tuning for GPT-3.5 Turbo. This allows companies to train the model on their own data, and results suggest the performance can exceed GPT-4 on narrow tasks.
