One of the fears AI safety advocates have is what happens when dangerous people get their hands on advanced models. In a speech last Friday, Russian leader Vladimir Putin made a full throated appeal for why Russia will develop its own AI as a new battleground with the west.

3. Inflection’s Newest Model

The company behind personal AI “Pi” has released Inflection 2 with a claim that it’s officially the second most powerful AI model behind OpenAI’s GPT-4. The model was trained on 5000 Nvidia H100s.

2. New US-Led AI Security Initiative

18 countries, led by the United States and the UK, announced on Sunday a new non-binding framework for keeping AI “secure by design” and out of the hands of bad actors. The framework is primarily focused on the appropriate testing and guardrails before release.
