Pakistan’s former PM Imran Khan is currently in jail, and in advance of elections in February, his party isn’t allowed to hold in-person rallies. Enter: AI. Over the weekend, Khan’s party streamed a marathon 5-hour virtual rally including a 4 minute speech written by Khan in jail and delivered by an AI version of his voice.

In one of the most expected by still controversial trends, AI romantic partners are on the rise. Late last week a new startup called Digi went totally viral, provoking much debate about the societal ramifications of these types of AI girlfriends and boyfriends.

2. GPT-4.5 Speculation Increases Over the Weekend

Last week we discussed how OpenAI leaker accounts like Flowers from the Future and Jimmy Apples were heavily suggesting that GPT-4.5 was imminent. Over the weekend, a significant perceived performance boost just ratcheted that discussion up even further.

Apparently TikTok parent ByteDance is very worried about being behind in the AI arms race. The Verge is reporting that the company’s “Project Seed” to develop their own LLM is heavily relying on OpenAI’s API — despite that being a violation of OpenAI’s terms of service.
