Google has released a significant upgrade to its Deep Research agents, now available in a standard version and a new state-of-the-art Deep Research Max. Integration into the Agentic Stack
The image-to-UI-to-Codex pipeline changes everything about what Codex can produce.
This is the unlock that matters most. Codex has always struggled with initial UI — it's good at implementing a reference design, but bad at creating one from scratch. Limitations and Caveats
Artifacts, anatomy errors, and a quality ceiling that's still real.
Not everyone was blown away. A dotted mesh artifact has been widely noticed when images are zoomed in. Sharon Goldman had her sister — a med school anatomy professor — review a generated human thorax diagram; it looked great but had an extra set of veins, mislabeled parts, and placement errors. For zero-tolerance use cases, the model still falls short. Ethan Mollick also noted that editing becomes "stubborn" after a round or two, and starting a fresh chat helps.

The OpenAI team is clearly signaling this model is an early example of what happens when you throw more resources at training. Greg Brockman's comment — "really incredible what you're now able to create with a little bit of compute" — is being read as a tease that this approach extends well beyond images.
